Through its General Consultative Status (Category One) as a non-governmental organisation at the United Nations, Soroptimist International works together with other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and various United Nations agencies to bring about change to make the world a better place for this, and future generations.
The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin word soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best.
Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as 'the best for women'.
